We specialize in providing custom solutions for our clients.
Since 2003 we have serviced over 2,000 projects ranging from the design of special application uses various engineering projects, various custom design projects and turnkey engineering solutions.
Clients have included manufacturing industries, mines and sawmills throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Alaska, Washington State, and Oregon.
Below we have chosen some past projects which will highlight the breadth work and engineering solutions we can provide:
Lulu Island Transfer Station
Client: Metro Vancouver
Location: Richmond, B.C.
WCC was involved from the conception of the project which included original designs, 3D modelling, and structural analysis while working side-by-side with the client to ensure their goals were exceeded.
The transfer of sludge from Iona Island WWTP to Lulu Island WWTP was streamlined and impacts to neighbouring residents mitigated by ensuring a seamless transition from truck to the underground holding tanks through a series of pipes. The final design featured piping both below and above ground made of stainless steel and PVC and a concrete approach ramp including rebar and form plans.
Roof Access Crane Platforms
Client: Nexen
Location: Fort Nelson, B.C.
The client required a unique and original solution to access rooftop sensors in a confined, highly combustible, and explosive working area.
While supporting Nexen’s workflow and efficiency targets, the final design featured a carriage capable of carrying two workers. The carriage can be mobilized in a fraction of the time compared to previous solutions, of scaffolding and temporary construction, and allows for access across all areas in the plant.
Truck Mounted Scissor Lift
Client: Innovative Parts & Solutions
Location: Vancouver, B.C.
A custom scissor lift was requested to be designed according to the client’s requirements which included lateral extenders to allow up to two operators to work safely and efficiently with a predetermined load.
The design was carried out by 3D modelling the entire system and performing stability and overturning assessments. The final lift was commissioned and load tested to ensure the safety of the operators. The lift was designed with a total capacity of 8,000lbs and, with the platforms extended, a capacity of 2,000lbs.
Concrete Pipe Cast Overturning Frame
Client: Diamond Precast Concrete
Location: Burnaby, B.C.
WCC designed a new original design for rotating large steel molds in a minimal amount of space.
The new design significantly minimized costs and increased the production efficiency and safety of the plant. The frame and supporting assembly was 3D modelled and respective calculations performed to perform a full design-build from conception to completion. The final structure was commissioned and load tested to ensure that the structure performed as per design.
Rail Carriage Stress Calculation
Client: Port of Vancouver
Location: Vancouver, B.C.
The client requested that a rail carriage system be designed for undercarriage unloading of train carts when in port.
For this project advanced structural analysis such as finite element analysis (FEA), 3D modelling, and stress analysis were performed to accurately predict the strength and reliability of the system.
